Beginner/Intermediate
Learn to see and paint Cape Cod through the eyes of Modernist artists Arthur Dove, Juan Miro, Paul Klee, and Wassily Kandinsky at this two-day workshop taught by artist Richard Perry. Join us for a creative journey filled with inspiration and learning.
Experience in drawing always helps but novices are invited as well to join this two-day watercolor workshop with artist Richard Perry. If you can’t draw a straight line that’s ok; you won’t have to, just scribble and paint! With Perry’s instruction, the class will be looking to the art of Arthur Dove, Juan Miro, Paul Klee, and Wassily Kandinsky for inspiration.
Perry shares, “I have been watercoloring since the early 1970’s and exhibited over 150 watercolors in October 2023 at the Brewster Ladies Library, Brewster, MA. Watercoloring is the simplest, most direct form of painting I know. Yet many artists are afraid of watercolor painting. It is considered difficult to master, and the paints and paper are expensive. This is wrong!
I liken watercoloring to cooking, where every color is a potential ingredient in a dish. So, if you like to cook and experiment with food, you will be right at home watercoloring. You don't need foie gras or caviar to make a tasty dish. The joy comes from experimenting, accidents, and learning. Inexpensive watercolor sets, and mixed media paper are just fine. We will have a fun and rewarding time during this 2-day workshop.”
Materials: All materials for the class are provided, which will be for students to keep: brush and pen, 24-color watercolor set, and 40-sheet Mixed Media 9” x 12” Pad.
Richard Perry studied drawing, painting, and sculpture in New York City from 1970 to 1978 and since then on Cape Cod. He has explored the medium of relief painting since 1975 and relief sculpture since 2013. He lives in Brewster. Learn more: richardoperry.com
