Karen R. Ryder discusses the similarities and differences between urban and travel sketching, journaling, and plein air painting. Understand how sketching fits into her art-making process and how making art on the go can be a sport as well as an artistic pursuit. She’ll share how she got started with urban sketching, and how she got from there . . . to here. Karen's lecture is offered in conjunction with From Here to There: Docent-curated from the CCMoA Permanent Collection.
Karen R. Ryder is an artist in Osterville, MA. Her landscape oil paintings are characterized by highly textured, energetic strokes painted outdoors with knives, while her watercolors capture scenes with lively energy. Her studio and figurative paintings reflect a similar impressionistic style, but often employ additional techniques and materials.
Regularly shown and sold at local and regional plein air festivals around Cape Cod and the surrounding islands, her work has been exhibited in several northeast states and is part of the collections of many private collectors.
