Why is the foundation of modern art, Hans Hofmann’s theory of push/pull, so engaging? We will create figure drawings, paintings, and collages that respond to this natural law searching for our authentic visual language. We will study Hans Hofmann’s theory of push/pull, the precursor of Abstract Expressionism, through presentations in dialogue and through making art. Over two consecutive days, you will begin with charcoal on paper, then make collages, paintings, or continue to draw. Through guided exercises and mindful critiques, you will deepen your experience of color, materials, and compositional skills with a model as your subject.
Bring lunch for an included 30-minute lunch break.
Materials List: drawing and painting or collage supplies. Click here for Laura's suggested materials list.
