Ms. Mavor has illustrated many children’s books using her unique blend of  materials and hand stitching techniques. Her picture book, Pocketful of  Posies: A Treasury of Nursery Rhymes won the 2011 Boston Globe-Horn Book Award and the 2011 Golden Kite Award. Her popular how-to book, Felt Wee  Folk: New Adventures is in its 2nd edition, inspiring creativity in all  ages. She and her husband Rob Goldsborough recently collaborated on the  stop-motion animation, “Liberty and Justice: A Cautionary Tale in the  Land of the Free”. Salley Mavor lives and works in her home studio in  Falmouth, Massachusetts.

Well-known Dennis potter/sculptor Harry Holl created Tree of Life in the 1960s. It hung for more than 30 years on a house on St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands, and the 47 individual tiles that make up the sculpture then spent another 20 years in storage. The sculpture has been restored and given to the Cape Cod Museum of Art, which was co-founded by Holl.

In “Light in a Dark Season,” 80 artists shine their light for the Cape Cod Museum of Art (CCMoA) visitors in in a stunning variety of paintings, prints, photographs, sculptures and jewelry.

Since the 1970s, artist, activist, and educator Claudia DeMonte, who has been in more than 100 solo shows and 500 group shows, has been challenging ideas of the role of women in society and emphasizing the shared experience of being female.

Within the historical perspective, Go Figure: Exploring the Human Form takes a wide-ranging view of work by artists associated with Cape Cod who interpret the human figure in realistic and imaginative ways.What's this item about? The Board of Trustees of Cape Cod Museum of Art announced today that the museum would “embark on a bold path to implement a year-long strategic plan designed to expand our relevance and engagement across the community while tackling unprecedented economic and technological challenges facing museums nationwide.”

Hans Hofmann taught the exciting new approaches of European modernism to the thousands of students who flocked to his Provincetown and New York schools. From 1935 to 1957, his classes inspired a new direction in American art.

Travel with Others Interested in Culture!

Bob Spohn was “…a star docent,’ the one that everyone, visitors and other docents, wanted to hear talk about art during his nine years teaching visitors at Cape Cod Museum of Art” said Margo Greenhow, a current docent at CCMoA. A collector of Cape Cod art, Spohn has given 14 paintings to CCMoA’s permanent collection, which includes students of the three major Cape Cod Art teachers -- Hawthorne, Hensche, and Hofmann, to be used as a ‘teaching collection.’
